Electives
About
Electives are separate courses that students can choose.
They choose elective courses to satisfy their specific knowledge needs. For this purpose a wide range of elective courses is available. This also includes all specialisation courses, thus enabling students to choose specialisation courses from one or more of the non-chosen specialisations.
To guarantee the interdisciplinary character of the programme, students must choose elective courses from each of the three MSc programmes that supply courses to the MSc programme TIL, as well as from other TIL fields, such as e.g. air transport, martime transport, systems and control, project managent, underground space technology, economic, ethics, etc.
Rules
The credits awarded for the elective subjects chosen by the student have to add up to a total of 26 or 27 EC. The exact amount of credits depends on the size of the chosen specialisation: the total amount of credits of the fundamentals, the specialisations and the electives should add up to a total of 80 EC. A result of this rule is that students that opt for the specialisations P or O must take elective courses to a total of 27 EC and that students that opt for the specialisations D or E must take elective courses to a total of 26 EC.
Within the required 26 or 27 EC of electives students must choose at least one course, not already chosen as part of their specialisation, from each of four elective course categories as shown below. The possibly remaining credits may be chosen otherwise.
