C8.M4 Individuals in teams: Accomplishing Goals and Performing Successfully
Course description:
The aim of the course INDIVIDUALS IN TEAMS is to enhance your personal efficacy, your ability to accomplish your goals and to perform successfully. This will sustainably benefit you during your PhD project and your subsequent professional career.
In four sessions, the personal efficacy training covers a rich variety of important subjects:
- Setting and identifying goals
- Personal values and mission
- Core qualities and talents
- Non-verbal communication
- Expectations and self-fulfilling prophecies
- Giving instructions and constructive feedback
- Time and risk management
During the evaluation 92% of all participants indicated they would definitely recommend this training to a fellow PhD student.
Because the Individuals in Teams training has been created in direct cooperation with several universities, the training contents have proven to be very well suited to the demanding workflow of PhD students. The training incorporates cutting-edge elements of psychology as well as established best-practices, like a professional risk management methodology.
The lively sessions contain interactive group exercises that help you put theory into practice, develop a solid understanding of the topics under discussion and discover how they apply to your situation.
Course objectives:
After this course, you will:
- Have a clear sense of your drivers and talents, guiding your future (career) choices;
- Have acquired a valuable set of tools that will serve you in your work;
- Be more effective at your work and proficient in the way you interact and cooperate with your colleagues.
Teaching method:
In the Individuals in Teams training students are actively involved to help create an interesting and refreshing training environment. The use of lectures is kept to a minimum and most of the time students partake in group assignments and discussions. The training is well suited to international students (in fact the presence of international students provides additional depth when analysing the way in which we interact and communicate). The pacing of the training is high.
About the Lecturer(s)/Coach(es)
Exergy was founded in 2009 by Michiel Jongerden and several other communication, training and coaching professionals. Exergy trains teams of young professionals to help get the most of their professional selves and out the teams they are a part of.
Michiel is an organizational psychologist with a broad theoretical foundation in the art and science of training. He is a 3rd degree black-belt martial arts specialist. Occasionally he likes to incorporate elements from this sport in his training courses as engaging metaphors for more abstract concepts.
Michiel trains teams together with his brother, Jacques, who, having performed consultancy and management work for a variety of large corporations, helps proof the training with real-world experience of what works and what doesn’t.
