C8.M2 Autonomy in the Research Process
Course description:
The aim of the course AUTONOMY IN THE RESEARCH PROCESS is to learn to become a self aware autonomous, independent professional. Personal development influences the ability to show your professional skills at times required. Attention will be give to cultural differences. Well developed autonomy supports you in demonstrating your willingness to learn and your knowledge, as well as demonstrating your motivation, thoroughness and flexibility.
Course objectives:
After this course you are able to:
- Be self-aware, recognise personal boundaries and use sources of support appropriately;
- Identify your own values and skills strengths and training needs;
- Show initiative, open-mindedness and resilience;
- Work independently and show a responsible attitude and integrity in your own approach to research;
- See the difference between cultural influence and your own personality/
personality of (important) others.
Teaching method:
During the course, you design your personal development plan and there will be a follow up. We work with your daily practice experiences (e.g. dealing with support personal; dealing with appraisal). The used techniques and methods are: behavioural analysis and strategies (exercises, role exercises), cognitive techniques (basic beliefs), mindfulness, observation and reflection/ discussion. You will receive a handout with the theoretical background.

About the Lecturer(s)/Coach(es)
Paula Meesters is licensed psychologist and trainer. She works at TU Delft/ Educational and Student Affairs (Student Support) since 1993 and for the Graduate School. Her background is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
