C2.M2 Project Management of your PhD project

Course description:

Your PhD research in fact is a project. You might be unaware of it (let alone its implications….) but it is a project. Think of, for example, the research project’s objective, its scope, its organization (stakeholders!), its constraints (timespan of 4 years), its success criteria (getting your Doctoral degree, publishing in scientific journals, presenting at outstanding conferences, …) and risk management. With this workshop in Project Management, we will introduce the basics of project management and how these can assist you in the timely and successful completion of your PhD research.

The workshop focuses on the following themes:

Basic principles of project management & Prince2 (half-day);
Application of Prince2 for research projects (half-day);
Link to your PhD project (half-day).

Learning objectives:

Taking part in the workshop will provide participants with:

An understanding of project management principles;
The ability to approach their PhD research project with these project management principles.

Teaching Methods

The workshop uses the following formats:

Brief introduction to Project Management principles & Prince2;
Exercises based on your PhD project;
Take-home assignments & feedback.
