C13.M2 The Art of Presenting Science
Course Description
In the three day course ‘The Art of Presenting Science’ participants learn to use the means ‘story’ and ‘theatre’. By close study and practice of the fundaments of both story and theatre we will find numerous qualities that make outstanding presentations possible. These qualities are easy to apply to scientific presentations and give the participant the tools to organize content in an intriguing way and bring it with flair and authenticity. The first skill also makes a difference in writing articles, proposals and popular scientific writing. The second skill gives you more effectiveness in other situations in which you have to address a group such as meetings and education.
Course Objectives
After this course, you will be able:
- To organize presentation content as to make it intriguing for an audience.
- To be able to present science with flair and authenticity, using theatre techniques, thereby increasing the impact of scientific communication.
Teaching Method
During the course, participants work on a short presentation which they improve along the way. All exercises are recorded and studied in between course meetings. Along with theatre and story, the use of slides , addressing different audiences and reacting to questions are also a part of the course.
