C10.M5 How-to: Attach Value to Your Research Results (Intellectual Property and Research Grants)
Course Description:
A well-funded scientist is a happy scientist. During your PhD and in a future scientific career you will encounter opportunities and difficulties. In this course you will learn to recognize the opportunities that arise during your PhD so that you can valorise your results (learn about the relevance of university owned IP) and build a trackrecord for future research grant applications (recognize grant opportunities).
Learning Objectives:
- Experiencing the many possibilities and showing how heavily IP choices in an early stage influence the effectiveness range of the technology (both use and R&D)
- Interactively plugging your research ideas.
- Scientific career planning: how to act now, during your PhD in order to build a scientific resume, suitable to acquire research funding in the future
Teaching Method:
- This workshop comprises two parts: the first part relates to the theme of intellectual property and the latter to research grants:
Several micro-cases to be plotted by groups of four, followed by group discussion, summaries and a feedback session (13:15-15:00 Annegreeth Lameijer/ Jan Schiereck); - Interactive lecture and workshop (15:15-17:00 Gertjan de Werk).
About the Lecturer(s)/Coach(es):
Annegreeth Lameijer and Jan Schiereck are intellectual property managers at the Valorisation Centre of Delft Technical University. Gertjan de Werk assists post-docs in obtaining research funding at the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and Technology Foundation STW and organises various outreach activities for the TU Delft (LLowlab at Lowlands etc).
