C10.M4 Career Development - Preparing for a Company Assessment

Course description:

As part of your orientation towards a career after your PhD and preparing for an application process, an assessment often is part of any application procedure in professional organizations in the Netherlands. This workshop gets you prepared for participation in such an assessment. The workshop is designed for PhD students in their final year who want to continue their career outside of science.

Learning objectives:

The learning objectives of the workshop 'How-to: Prepare for a Company Assessement" are:

• Learning to be open about yourself;
• Awareness of and creating your personal SWOT;
• Knowledge of the how and why of assessments;
• Knowledge of what psychologists / interviewers are looking for and how they do that;
• Knowledge of the role and usefulness of role playing games;
• Practice with one-on-one interviews;
• Practice with one-on-one role plays.

Teaching method:

The motto of the workshop is: doing = learning = improving. The workshop will combine useful theory with a lot of self-practice. At the end of the workshop, the participants have gathered a lot of insight and practical experience to confidently participate in an assessment, as part of an application procedure.

About the Lecturer(s)/Coach(es)

Sandra de Koning has graduated as a Master in Mathematical Engineering. After building a business career with extensive experience in management, project management and consultancy, in the fields of operations, technical and information management, and human resource management, she started her own coaching and training bureau, specializing in facilitating, training and coaching individuals and organizations in change processes. She is also active as a university lecturer in a variety of subjects relating her specialty.
