C10.M2 Career Development - Looking for Work in The Netherlands
Course description:
You have decided to stay in the Netherlands after your PhD and to look for work in the Netherlands. But where do you find information, what can you expect during an application interview, can you really phone-up prospective employers and are references required? This workshop provides accurate information on the job-hunting process in the Netherlands. The workshop provides useful tips, gives insight in the skills most sought after and helps international PhD’s to apply successfully in the Netherlands.
Course objectives:
After the workshop, you will feel more at ease when looking for a job in the Netherlands. The focus is on job-hunting in the Netherlands for foreign PhD students. The information is geared towards cultural differences, how to deal with the Dutch and the do’s and don’ts of Dutch application procedures.
Teaching method:
Given the reality of today’s labour markets, we aim to assist international PhDs to understand and capture their career opportunities in the Dutch job arena.
About the Lecturer(s)/Coach(es)
Nannette Ripmeester is founder and director of Expertise in Labour Mobility. ELM specializes in the communication between organizations and their expat population. Nannette has co-authored 38 books on managing and working across borders and job-hunting internationally and has written numerous articles on the topic of globalization and its effects on the HR profession. Nannette Ripmeester is a regular, invited speaker at a number of international conferences. She has written extensively on international labour mobility. ELM has published a series of career guides on “Looking for work in …” focusing on cultural management issues and job hunting differences in over 40 countries. ELM has developed training courses to enhance global (corporate) success and their major line of work is assisting companies and individuals (expats & students) working across borders and between cultures. The pragmatic research into recruitment practices, labour migration, globalization, cultural management differences, and living and working conditions abroad has improved the efficiency of a large number of organizations and helped to make international mobility work.
