Doctoral Education Programme (DE)
In order to become an attractive asset to the job market, a Doctor must be equipped with a number of competences. In order to attain or improve these competences the Graduate School offers you several courses. This concept is the basis for the Doctoral Education – Skills Training Programme.
The training programme consists of 3 categories which require a minimum of 15 GS credits each:
- Discipline-related skills will improve your breadth of knowledge and, therefore, add to the quality of your doctoral research. These courses are organized by the faculty GS.
- Research skills can be obtained by doing "Learning on-the-Job Activities" or courses*. These courses are organized by the faculty GS.
- Transferable skills help you improve yourself on a personal level. These skills will also help you to become a better professional, regardless of the career path you choose. The three main themes within generic skills are: Self-management, Communication and Cooperation. ** Within this section the PhD Start-Up (4 credits) and a at least one Career Development workshop (1 credit) are mandatory. These courses are organized by the University GS.
* You can obtain a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 GS credits through Learning on-the-Job activities.
** Please note that you can obtain a maximum of 4 GS credits via language courses (i.e. C11.M3, C11.M4, C11.M5)
Because the Discipline-related skills and Research skills are linked to specific types of research these courses will be determined per faculty and/or supervisory team. For more information please visit your Faculty Graduate School website or consult your Promotor.
