Light tables have positive effect on mood of elderly dementia patients

Special light tables can help to improve the activity levels and moods of old people suffering from dementia. When using the tables they sleep less, are more active and communicate more. This is the conclusion reached by Loek Canton in his Master's thesis project for the faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft.

VICI grant to develop surgical ‘mechanical octopus tentacle’ further

NWO has awarded a VICI grant worth 1.5 million euros to Dr Paul Breedveld of TU Delft for the development of new, flexible surgical instruments. Dr Breedveld’s study involves coming up with new ideas for working principles and steering methods for these ‘mechanical octopus tentacles’ and working these out in practice.

Hultink, who focuses on the launch and branding of new products, takes third place in the Xian Jiaotong University’s worldwide ranking. TU Delft as a whole is also included in the top ten in the area of Innovation Management.

Cell's nuclear lamina provides scaffold for DNA

The nuclear lamina of a cell acts as a kind of scaffold from which much of the DNA hangs. And the organisation of this DNA in the nuclear lamina has proven very stable throughout evolution: there are hardly any differences between mice and men. These are the conclusions reached by Wouter Meuleman, who defended his PhD thesis on this topic at TU Delft on Friday 27 January.

Albert Theuwissen elected Electronic Imaging Scientist 2011

Albert Theuwissen, professor at the Delft University of Technology (Delft, the Netherlands) and CEO of Harvest Imaging (Bree, Belgium) was elected Electronic Imaging Scientist 2011 at the Electronic Imaging conference, one of the world’s largest events in the field of digital image sensors, electronic cameras and their applications, held in San Francisco from January 23rd-26th.
