DUT develops Floating Cities Technology

Floating Cities Technology is an inspiring example of next generation delta technology, to which DUT dedicates itself. This technology, derived from the Floating City research programme, investigates the many aspects of waterbased urban development. The project integrates Dutch core areas of water management, architecture and building technology into a consistent and appealing export product: The Floating City.

The Century of Cities

For the first time in human history the urban population equals the amount of people living in rural areas. The increasing rate of urbanization presents great challenges. From a global point of view, urbanization concentrates near river deltas and estuaries, making flood protection crucial. Floating urban development offers great potential for flexible and climate proof cities and can reduce the vulnerability of low-lying delta areas.
